You can expose your prototype to any ambient temperature profile and include factors such as thermal radiation from hot tarmac and solar irradiance. Such extensive tests are very time consuming in practice — in simulation, you can vary these factors with just a few clicks in a matter of seconds. Define the geometry of all the components within your shipping system. Set material parameters like heat conductivity, and density.
Are you using coolants in your packaging system? To which temperatures were they preconditioned? What is the start temperature of your product?
Define the initial conditions of the components used in your packaging system.
What ambient temperatures will your packaging face? Is it going to be exposed to direct sunlight? What ISTA profile was run during the climate chamber test?
Apply any kind of temperature profile to your simulation and see how the different profiles affect the lifetime.
